CLASS MANAGEMENT
Our 3rd graders have a daily behavioral incentive program that your child is working towards. Each day you will be able to see how your child’s behavior was in school. In their homework folder will be a monthly calendar where each day will be colored to represent the level your child reached with his/her behavior. Each student starts the day on "ready to learn." The goal is to reach the top level, which is “super student” for that day. At the end of each month, awards will be given to students who earned 10 or more “super student” levels for that month. This allows your child to monitor his/her behavior daily. Another positive about this incentive plan is if your child reaches a low level of behavior he/she still has the chance to turn their day around and reach “super student.” On the other hand, at the end of the day, if your child is at the “parent letter” level, then a note will be sent home describing your child’s behavior. It is meant to be discussed by you and your child. I ask that you sign the note and have your child return it to school the next day. If a child stays in the “parent contact” area beyond a third time, I will call for a parent meeting and the principal will be notified. Further disciplinary action will be discussed then.
Additionally, to build a positive class community students will work to fill a class marble jar. A marble is put in the jar when the entire class has put forth their best effort, behaved remarkably or done something notable (example: a perfectly quiet transition). When the jar is filled the class will have a small celebration, which may include playing educational games, free draw, watching a movie, etc.
Students also receive coupons as part of the school wide PBIS program when they are safe, responsible & respectful.
HOMEWORK
Students will typically have homework every night, except Friday. Sometimes students may have a project that will require some work over the weekend. Homework should take about 30 minutes of focused work time. Every night students should also read at least 20 minutes.
As an incentive for doing homework, each student will receive a sticker on their sticker chart after completing two homeworks. When the sticker chart is full, they earn a homework pass or may choose another reward.
If a student ever becomes frustrated or stressed after 30 minutes of focused homework time, please stick a note on the top of his/her homework. We will work together to figure out the problem.
